Over the last 6 years the Foundation has modernized and equipped school centers in biology, physics, chemistry, IT, entrepreneurship and languages in 45 schools.
The America for Bulgaria Foundation (ABF) launches a call for projects for enhancement of the learning environment in Bulgarian state and municipal schools. The initiative is part of the Schools of the Future Program which has already funded 45 schools around the country over the last 6 years. This year the Foundation will grant the total of BGN 2 million for the establishment of school centers in mathematics and sciences, technologies and language teaching.
The America for Bulgaria Foundation will accept applications until January 5th, 2016. All the proposals will be carefully considered and the shortlisted projects will be announced in April 2016. The maximum amount a school can apply for is BGN 200,000. The first call for applications in 2013 generated great interest with over 200 applications.
Over 30,000 Bulgarian students now have access to new labs in chemistry, physics and biology, develop their entrepreneurship skills and benefit from the latest technologies in modern IT and language centers due to the America for Bulgaria support. Over the last 6 years the Schools of the Future Program has reached 45 schools. The Foundation has provided financial support of over 5,5 million levs and the schools have raised an additional 1 million levs.
“We aim to encourage the Bulgarian students to pursue career in mathematics, computer technologies, and natural sciences. We hope more and more kids will become involved with science. In this way Bulgaria will be able to develop high added value economic sectors and provide the hugely demanded human resource for the high-tech industries”, says Natalia Miteva, Program Director ‘Education and Libraries’ at the America for Bulgaria Foundation.
The Schools of the Future Program is one of many initiatives aimed by the America for Bulgaria Foundation to stimulate Bulgarian students’ interest in mathematics, natural sciences and English language. Every year the Foundation organizes training and professional exchange in the USA for 30 talented and progressive Bulgarian teachers and school directors. For over 5 years ABF supports the preparation and participation of the national teams in natural sciences in the most prestigious international Olympiads and competitions.
