With Christmas and the New Year just weeks away, our hearts are brimming over with kindness and a genuine desire to help others. The number of fundraising campaigns reaches its peak at this time of year and we’re constantly encouraged from the TV screen or radio to support various worthy cause. Those causes, however, need support not just around the holidays. The Learn to Give campaign is meant to teach the youngest members of our society, our children, the importance of giving.
Learn to Give is finding its way into more and more classrooms around Bulgaria and making our children more socially responsible and responsive. The people behind this generous initiative hope that one day all Bulgarian children will have “giving classes” at school.
The idea belongs to the US-based organization Learning to Give, which has been working to promote this model for the past ten years and has already introduced “giving” classes in some schools around the United States.
The Bulgarian Donors’ Forum (BDF) has developed a pilot project aimed at making giving classes part of the school curriculum in Bulgaria.
Another objective of the project is developing Bulgarian schoolchildren’s charity culture through focus on compassion and empathy. They are also encouraged to launch their own fundraising initiatives at an early age, as part of building valuable donation experience for the future.
Learn to Give is being implemented in twenty-four schools across Bulgaria. At the end of November 2017, Bulgaria’s President, Rumen Radev awarded the campaign for BDF’s contribution to the development of a donor environment in Bulgaria.
